The Tale of the Baron Tamar as told by Dom ‘Petit’ Pierre of Pasos

And so on the day of Winds in Illusion Week of Sea Season, Baron Tamar was summoned to the Halls of Vincent Du Temerine, Lady Tamar's second cousin.  There, he was tasked by that wise, venerable and rich beyond belief (may God bless and keep him) to find a man by the name of Marik Luther, last seen at the Fox at Bay Inn whose host is a man called Horst.  Accompanied by brave Sir Bellebois and watched over by his loyal and faithful Priest, he did unto that renowned hostelry venture in pursuit of the truth.

At the Fox at Bay, the Baron asked about the whereabouts of the man Luther who Horst the Host did not at first recall.  It took the Baron's clever questioning and the timely intervention of a curious pair of foreigners, a man and woman to whom living under the sky must be as natural as living under a roof is to us civilised folk to aid his memory.  Peasants to us they may be but from their garb and weapons it was immediately clear to the Baron that they were people of standing in their society.  The man, who bore the runes of Death and Truth and is named Fenix Sigvardsson described Luther in detail and it soon became clear that this pair of pagans were also seeking him for he had been seen in company with a missing Lawspeaker and Sage that they had been tasked to find.

Horst's memory restored he described Luther as a Knight of Ralios who always had his nose in a book, spoke little and never smiled. He asked questions about the demon race, the Vadeli who are a blight upon the world and have established a colony in Sog City.  Seeking an interlocutor with those damned people, Horst sent Luther to speak to Bespick the Brown, a trader, who, he believed could at least be trusted as far as one could throw him.  Luther's interest was apparently in learning of the depraved and fallen that sell sins of the flesh in the Street of Women - who better than a Vadeli to ask of such things!

Before the Baron and his new found retainers could leave, however, there was an unexpected assault on his person.  A fierce skirmish followed where Tamar fought bravely and saved the female pagan, named Vera the Red from an assassin's deadly crossbow bolt.  Sir Bellebois and the pagan Knight Sigvardsson also accounted themselves well, sending the would be assassins, four times their number, to their graves.

Only one villain survived to be questioned and only threats issued from his foul mouth before he killed himself in a most unpleasant manner.  It later emerged that these men were from a secret organisation called the Cult of the Damned.  Known to the Judges in Sog City, this cult are rarely seen but much feared.

Undeterred, the Baron and his companions headed on to speak with the trader named Bespick and found him in an isolated part of the Milion market.  Despite the Vadeli's objectionable tone Tamar managed to elicit some interesting information.  Firstly, that Luther was no ordinary Knight and was versed in ‘dark' matters.  Second that he was seeking something or someone in Sog and went to a Vadeli brothel in the Street of Women called the House of Seducers, the most depraved of the sin houses there.

Steeling himself, Tamar ventured forth to that street, risking his immortal soul.  He ventured to this House of Seducers and questioned the Mistress of that House, Madame Gaga.  She admitted that Luther had indeed visited her but they were unable to ‘meet his needs'.  She would not elaborate and became agitated at further questioning.  Clearly she was hiding something and Tamar was determined to find out what it was so he and his retainers regrouped and hatched a cunning plan...
