This week a bumblebee of pain is brought to the group, will they find the Mortein before the end of the day or will they fall victim to his malarial proboscis?
So we start the session with a hissy Windling wanting to fight the heroes. He is dressed for combat and Grey senses that he could be an adept of a martial school. The Windling had been very insulting and was demanding the return of his jewel.
Jorje Taunted Grey with an insult about his amorous adventures with goats. Grey did not like this and even though he was stung to the quick he screwed his eyes shut to stop from tearing up, and stuffed some hand towels in his ears to block out the verbal barrage and walked back into the hotel to find something to duff the Windling with.
The party tried to negotiate but Jorje seemed to get angrier, especially as Grey was walking off and he was demanding everyone open their bags to prove they did not have the jewel. Bod was being sneaky and used his magical abilities to get the crowd roused against Jorje by creating an illusion of a number of participants standing around pointing at Jorje and muttering angrily. This started to distract Jorje who was getting more and more unreasonable. Bod also took Jorge's form to confuse people more using the power of You Got Me. He flew up to a perch to watch proceedings and plan how he was going to intervene.
Grey went inside and grabbed a curtain to bag the windling so they could bash him. Turned and made his way out towards the bar area again. Jorje demanded the party reveal what is in their bags and Arahan acquiesced and looked around for the others to follow. Out of Arahan’s bag his normal adventuring kit dropped, but when Charis's bag was emptied a perfectly cut crystal came out of her bag. That sends Jorje over the edge and the fight started after he whipped in and grabbed the jewel back.
Arahan and Grey started to engage in hand to hand combat. Jorje lashed out at Arahan causing a small amount of damage before Grey charged him and wove his weapon in a tight arc to back Jorje up. Jorje was using a talent designed to help him Manoeuvre into position for great flanking hits. And he managed to score a couple of hits on Grey for real. The rest of the team just started to beat him using submission damage.
Bod flew down into the on looking crowd and using his skills of persuasion convinced the crowd that the other Windling had stolen his jewel. The crowd, seeing two Windlings that looked the same in a melee. Grey hit Jorje a few times, focusing on submission damage to repay the two times he was hit with some return. Arahan flailed around the sides of the battle, unable to score a telling blow on the Windling who was dodging like a mofo! Bod decided it was time to get a bit primitive and blasted him multiple times with the Ephemeral Bolt, which was effective in beating Jorje up some more as Jorje was looking to lays more pain down with his glittering windling sword.
Bod roused the crowd one last time and does an amazing job of convincing the crowd he is the party that has been wronged. Spurred into action the crowd all bust in on the fight and grappled everyone, calling for the guard to come and sort it out. The crowd find themselves gripping Bod as well, but they quickly let go of him and ask him to stay put. The guards come and start to round everyone up. They are not rough but then they are not easy on the heroes as well, seeing these types of brawls daily. They dragged everyone (except Bod who was merely escorted) away to see the magistrate at the Council Admin offices. Just as they were about to enter the building Bod slipped away from the guards and flew off vertically, managing to find a place to hide and re-established his own face by dispelling the magic.,/p>
The heroes were put in front of the magistrate who was an old fusty dwarf in a wig. He greets the party and Jorje and explains he wants to know what was happing or you will both end up in the brig. Jorje starts to explain why he was attacking, as the group had stolen a jewel he had been given by his sister to give to the Windling Queen to allow him to compete in the Queens Swordmaster Tournament. Bod enters claiming to be the defendant for the group, also known as Gregoriuses Fighter's, Heroes of Jerris. The Magistrate laughed explaining that TukTuk's raiders had been through the office only a day ago, people change. Bod introduced himself and stated his opinion, managing a great First Impression on the Magistrate, who went easy on the group. Bod explained that they were attacked out of nowhere, and they knew nothing of the jewel until he started fighting them.
Jorje claims he was robbed, and they had the jewel. His sister Anja gave it to him and she told him that they had it this morning. He said that Anja was a forewoman at the miners guild and would vouch for him. Magistrate knows of Anja and sent guards to get her. He also said that when challenged Charis opened her bag and that the jewel did fall out and he reclaimed it. The Magistrate asked to look at the jewel and turned to Charis and asked her directly if that occurred. Charis was trembling and near tears and said that the jewel did in fact fall out of her bag, but she knew nothing of it, and that someone must have placed it on her. The rest of the group looked at Charis to see if she was lying but they actually believed that she knew nothing of the jewel, being one to loose herself in books and theories and such. The party also tried to imply they were friends with Omasu and Tyrs, and either of them will vouch for them. This was noted an he sent guards out to request their presence. He warned the party that if this was a stunt then they would pay for it.
Anja came and participated in the investigation. Bod liked what he saw when she arrived as she was a very pretty Windling in good clothing and with a miners vest over the top. The magistrate relayed the story back and Jorje repeated his tale that Anja told him this morning that the stone had been stolen by Gregoriuses Fighter's. This revealed a hole in Jorje's story as he claims Anja was talking to him in the morning, but Anja rebutted and told him they had not seen each other since she gave him the stone. Bod tried to use this opportunity to test his wiles with this feisty Windling, but he failed to impress her at all, leaving him there preening. The Magistrate told them that there was no case against them as Jorje was obviously confused, and they can leave. They needed to remember to stay out of trouble; as if you turn up in front of me again you will be in big trouble.
So released our heroes start to exit the building, breathing the outside air and thankful they did not end up in a cell. As they left they saw Omniet coming towards the Council Admin offices. He said he was coming for them as he had received the summons, but now they were out they could meet with his master Tyrs in an hour and a half. The party agreed and headed back to the hotel to change.
The group returned and were led to Tyrs's meeting room, where Omniet sat as well. He was a well dressed dwarf who was very hospitable. He praised the group’s bravery and said that he would like to get their story down in full. Bod and Charis tried to view Tyrs and Omniet together in the same room, and they got the same type of interference they saw when they last viewed Omniet. They were also able to make out that the Thread woven to Omniet originated with Tyrs. They were unable to pick out much more information other than a faint pick up of Tyrs Astral Signature. Tyrs said that a lot of people had taken notice of them. He also said that he saw them with Omasu. There was more conversation and praise and it came to pass that Tyrs asked what Omasu wanted with them. He mentioned that Omasu was very sneaky and was always looking to advance his own plans, using subtlety instead of coming out with what he wants. Tyrs said Omasu did not respect the people he deals with as much, unlike him who prefers to be upfront about why they are working together. Tyrs asked again what he had asked and Grey told him that they would adventure to the Delaris Mountains for him. Tyrs was shocked pointing out that travelling any other way but by sky ship in an area filled with predators where no sound passes more than a few feet from you is like signing a death sentence.
Grey asked if all slaves were processed through Vivane. Tyrs said that they were, and he knew that because he had spent some time as a Theran slave. Grey also asked if he had any contacts in Vivane that could assist him in his task in finding some specific slaves. Tyrs smiled and nodded with satisfaction to himself and said that he has close contact with the Slavemasters secretary in Vivane, fostered in his adventures as a slave. Grey was interested in being introduced and Tyrs pointed out they could help him as well. He explained that there was a Kaer called Choamris he had found that the party should be able to clear out for him being a group competent enough to take on Therans in their own flying ships.
The Kaer is nearby (2.5 days away) that he discovered while roving, and is located to the south west towards. It has been opened but he had to flee as had many horror spawn in there. He thinks it’s the source of all the strawmen in the region. He could give them the information and introduction they want if the group journeys to this Kaer to retrieve the records. They can also keep any other stuff they find as he is only interested in the books. He also tells them he can get them most adventuring equipment on his tab with a friend of his.
The party agree to this an then retire for the night prepared to leave the next morning. During the night Grey was visited by his wife who advised him that he needed to work with Tyrs to get their children back.
Next morning, shopping spree at Garbutt’s supplies and then the group takes to the road.
What will happen to our adventurers? Have they sliped into another universe where Gygaxian rules reign supreme? Will they meet their doom at saves vs death traps? Tune in next week.
