Unlikely Allies Session 4 - Two Little Boys Print

Raven didn't call in the next few days, so Blaise sent an invitation of sorts; the Freedom League received a bill for the bolas, smoke & sleep grenades he'd used in the "simulation". Payment or a date with Raven was required.

Dressed in his smartest clothes he arrived at his chosen restaurant. Ten minutes passed and there was no sign of Raven. The waiter then delivered a box that had arrived for him. Inside Blaise found his replacement gear; it seemed she wasn't going to come.

Magni meanwhile went in search of Professor Blunt. Arriving at the University of Freedom City he addressed the lady at reception with his usual arrogance and threatening behavior. He was directed to the history department where the next receptionist was less intimidated by his manner. After following a lengthy set of directions Magni found the professors office at the end of a half lit corridor. Knocking, the door swung open. A nasty smell came out of the room which was carpeted with a layer of papers. Looking at the bookshelves which lined the room, Magni's foot touched something covered by the academic's debris. Sweeping the papers aside he found the cold dead body of Professor Blunt. Casting his eyes around he saw the telltale dust shadows of missing books from one shelf. The man had a gash on the back of his head. Resigned to the fact that he wouldn't find a way home here, he advised the receptionist to check on the professor on his way out.

A couple of weeks passed and no-one came to Magni asking difficult questions about dead men at the university. But one foggy night all the heroes did get a call, from Daedulus, asking that they get to Freedom Hall asap. The Blue Bolt did just that slightly startling the man as he ended the call. The rest of the team arrived and were shown to a monitoring room. From here all of the city's live CCTV footage could be accessed in addition to emergency service broadcasts.
From here they could see that the source of the fog was the river, but this wasn't the only thing it was producing. Ghostly figures could be seen appearing out of the cloud on the river's banks. Captain Thunder and Siren could also be seen attempting to repel their advance. Asking them to monitor the city in case this was a diversion Daedulus flew to aid his team mates.

Not trusting the electronics Magni flew to the building's roof to survey the situation with his own eyes. Blaise joined him.

Embracing the technology before him, Blue Bolt devised a program to correlate the data available in search of trouble. Hephaestus asked Minerva to also access the systems.

Two hours passed before all methods in place gave warning of a burglar alarm at Funtime Toys. Blue Bolt immediately teleported to the nearest CCTV camera. He could see the head office building and a florist van parked with its seas door ajar. Getting closer, he could see a couple of robotic dogs in the foyer.

Letting the team know what he'd seen he went back for a closer look. As the other heroes arrived he teleported to the second floor. Under the cover of his adaptive camouflage, Hephastis got in close to see what appeared to be toy-like robot dogs. Magni obviously didn't like the look of them, swinging his newly acquired hammer through the plate glass doors crushing the nearest pooch. Nano-man followed swarming into the reception hall. Moving in on the reforming hero, three full size human robots appeared from the edges of the hall. Fighting with a boxing action the mechanical attackers seemed to lack the power to damage Nano-man or Hephastis.

While Blaise ensured the van couldn't be used for an escape, Blue Bolt tried to use his computer interfacing powers to shut the security cameras down. Finding the building's system too secure, he descended to join the fight. One of the robo-poochies attempted to escape in a lift. Magni chased, grabbed it and crushed it, just as the doors closed behind him and the lift began to rise.

Meanwhile Blaise used power boots to climb the outside of the building and his x-ray binoculars to search it. Spotting many more robots on the fourth floor he informed the others. Blue Bolt teleported immediately. Hephaestus zoomed into action flying round the building and through the rear windows, quickly followed by Bloodthirst. Unable to stand the lift muzak Magni launched himself through the ceiling. Unfortunately he went straight into the gear mechanism stopping him dead. Blaise climbed to the fourth floor and smashed his way in. Nano-man swarmed past the dazed god on his way to the fourth floor too.

Intent on the job in hand a boy and a man in a clown costume stood in the open plan fourth floor directing a collection of robo-poochies, boxing robots and mechanical dinosaurs to destroy the computers, models & drawing boards collected there. The crashing entrance of the heroes drew the boy and clown's attention. Changing the focus of the robotic attacks the dinosaurs closed in on Hephaestus. Their fire breath had little effect on his armor. As a bolt of lightning Blue Bolt shot around the room electrifying all the enemies in the room. With Minerva crawling the internet the A.I. identified the child as Toyboy; a stunted 30 year old who designed Funtime Toys' products. Raven had exposed him as the mastermind behind many crimes but it looked like if was back for revenge.

Seeing things weren't going his way Toyboy dashed for the elevator. Blaise called out to him, to stop his robots, which seemed to make him pause to consider; but the ping from an elevator announced the arrival of a troop of flying action figures. This roused the boy from his doubt and the troopers opened fire on the marine. Lasers burning into his flak jacket Blaise jumped from the building, his boots saving him once again.

Suddenly another boy appeared among the melee and everything froze.

"This isn't how its supposed to go. This is no fun at all. These are obviously no use." Gesturing at the robots they all disappeared.

"Lets play another game. You ever play 'Corridors and Crawlways'? Well you will now."

In a blink all the heroes appeared in a metro train tunnel.
Above an opening in the wall in front of them a large digital display showed 02:00.

The new boy & Toyboy were also in the tunnel.

"You have two minutes to get through the maze, find and disarm the thermo-nuclear bomb before it destroys the city".

Without delay Blue Bolt zipped into the maze. Within seconds he'd searched two dead end sections. Shooting down one long corridor it led to a room with randomly aligned walls. As he flew among them, searching for a way forward, he noticed the walls were moving behind him. Heading back the way he'd come he found the exit had gone. Hephaestus made contact with Minerva. Apparently the maze or corridors weren't on any utility maps. He, Blaise and Bloodthirst followed the lightning trail into the maze. Magni, fustrated at being treated as a play thing, decided his hammer was the solution. Just as he took a swing, a large wooden hammer appeared striking him over the head, leaving him stunned and embarrassed.

Who is this mysterious boy ?
Will the heroes find the bomb ?
Will the GM realise what the word "summary" means ?
