Also a magic user is useful to a party so I would strongly urge someone in the party to try and fill that role.

Its unfortunate that you found magician complicated but I suspect a large part of that is due to the poor design of the characters and getting thrown in the deep end. I suspect that if you had a chance to play for a couple of sessions with a character you make yourself it will be much simpler. But if you have a different idea that has taken you fancy go for it.

I think in light of it, I'm changing my mind on the character front and will go for something a little simpler than magician, like CQ combat specialist. If anyone really wanted that role, shout out. I'll draft it up over the weekend...
