Re:Shadowrun 9 Months ago Current XP: 0
Name: Jake Usami
Age:26
Race: Elf

History before he was a shadow runner:
Jake was the son of Fugato Usami and Judith Usami (originally Judith Butler). He grew up in Camden with his older (by 3½ years) sister Sue. Jake’s father ran a moderately successful business, consisting of two martial arts schools (teaching Koryū). Unfortunately Local gangs had started becoming a major presence in the area. When Jake was 16 one of them broke into one of the martial arts schools while on the run from the police taking Jake, his parents and his fellow students hostage. A sergeant Will Murray held a vendetta against one of the gang members and after a series of bad decisions blew up the school killing himself and everyone inside apart from Jake.
After the incident Jake suffered very severe burns all over his body as well as impaired hearing and extensive muscle damage. Jake was sent to a Dr. Grayson who gave him a range of cyber and bioware implants to repair his hearing and muscles. Jake would latter agree to undergo (what was then) experimental and surgery giving him a range of advanced cyber and bioware, his agreement in this matter greatly furthered Dr. Grayson’s research and career.
During this time was cared for by his sister who was not present during the accident. She also took over the remaining martial arts school.

Shadowrunning: Jake took to criminal activity shortly after his ‘recovery’ from the incident, as a way of rebelling at the police and government who killed his parents. Jake’s friend Sam (who’s uncle was leader of a small gang) took Jake with him on a series of thefts and acts of petty vandalism. Jakes sister found out and put a stop to it. However once he turned 18 he left home and returned to the world of crime, this time donning an electronic mask and the name Oni, masking his identity from everyone apart from Sam - the only person who knows his true identity.

Location: Camden borough of London.

Look and feel: Jakes skin is severely burnt but he covers up almost all of his body most of the time, usually warring a latex mask when going outside as himself and a digital mask showing one of two Oni-mask style images when shadow running. He has long dark hair that goes down to his shoulders that covers anything not covered by his cloths, gloves or mask.

Personality: Jake is well educated and had strong interests in History and literature as well as dedicated knowledge of the history of martial arts and current martial arts competitions. After the explosion however his interest in these matters has taken 2nd place to shadow running. Jake spends most of his time not shadow running isolated in his house practicing and training. Jake dislikes going out in public (as himself) and finds it very hard dealing with people he doesn’t know well.

Motivations: Jake is a skilled combatant and effective infiltrator, he isn’t very good at dealing with people outside of combat however, and he suffers from constant pain due to his burns. Jake despises the police and the government and would gladly take any mission that would undermine them. Jake is ambivalent to any political issues over magic, technology or race and couldn’t care less what other people feel on those matters. Jake will not take on missions on anyone he considers to be honourable and innocent.

Family History: Jake’s only remaining family is his sister Sue. He and Sue are particularly close and would probably die for each other. Sue doesn’t know Jake is a shadow runner and believes he spends his entire time isolated at home, she frequently visits him and tries to convince him to go outside and live his life.

Friends/ enemies:
Sam Howers, Jake’s childhood friend (and fixer): Sam and Jake are good friends and trust each other with almost anything. Sam was the person who brought Jake into the criminal world and the only person who knows the Jake and Oni are the same person. Sam has wised up since his days as a petty thief (mostly due to time spent in a Young Offenders Institution and then in Prison). Sam has built up a range of contacts and tends to work as a fixer for others rather than committing crimes himself, although he also acts as a fence for some of his clients.

Dr. Limerick Grayson, CyberDoc: Dr Grayson was the man responsible for Jakes cybernetic implants. Dr Grayson requested that Jake allow him to try (what were then) experimental procedures on him, and Jake agreed. The success of these procedures led Dr Grayson into a fairly successful and renowned career, and Jake into a body capable of functioning. Jake has returned to Dr Grayson from time to time to receive new implants, and it is quite likely that Dr Grayson suspects Jake is involved in some sort of criminal activity. However the two of them get along well and Dr Grayson hasn’t said anything about Jakes activities.

Mr Johnson: Jake (as Oni) was introduced to Mr Johnson by Sam, Mr Johnson and Jake have never seen each others faces (Jake because of his mask and Mr Johnson because of a large tinted screen where they meet up). Over these last 7 years Jake has taken a range of missions for Mr Johnson and the two of them have a silent feeling of respect for each other, although neither one would trust the other with details about their lives.

I agree - if Kemp were in tow we'd need a mop in the truck. Next time bring out the big guns and bring The Cook.

Forget those third grade hoodlums. What we need to do is thaw out John Wayne, Clint Eastwood and Danny Trejo and go all wild west bad-ass on those pirates.

If I'd have thought about it I could have brought Ross Kemp or Danny Dyer along for a bit of filming

This sounds like great fun. Thanks for the recap Chris, now I see that being pursued down the highway by Somali pirates wasn't Plan A.

Re:Shadowrun 9 Months, 1 Week ago Current XP: 0
Chummers, here is a recap of last session, we got through a pretty deatailed planning session and started on the action.

We started with finalising how we were doing the run and chasing up any further information in regards to the Mr Johnson we are doing the run for and on the Somali Pirate Crew we thought would be our chief rivals.

We decided on running a classic knight rider swap with the streetvans. We were going to get a decoy streetvan loaded with a couple of redshirts and a truck that a van could fit in down to near the pick up point, then once we left we would trick the van into going into the back of the truck onto some rollers and run it back to the drop off point. The decoy would run along us as well hopefully pulling any attention away from the real cargo.

Uno followed up on Mr Johnson to renegotiate as there was a credible threat to the run. Uno could not get any further support but he got 5000 nuyen extra for goods and sevices to support the run. Uno was also told that Lone Star has been warned off the truck as it has been declared as Evo goods and will be protected by corp security, taking out the plan they originally had to get the Star to run interference with the gang.

The runners hit their contacts but found out no further information about the gang rather than rumours the threat is credible.

CAD spent the last 2 days prior to the run fixing rollers to the truck tray, to fool the Streetvan that is is still on the road by allowing its wheels to spin. Smooth D arranged to get a lon from a couple of redshirts from his brother, redshirts of the highly disposable type. While Chow hit up his fixer to spend the rest of the credit line given for pre-purchasing

On run day we all made our own way down to the pick up point, and jumped in van that appeared when we had assembled. There was a security camera that Evo must have been watching through as the Streetvan came out of the lot when we all arrived, tote bags and running gear in tow. CAD, Chow and Uno jumped in the front while Smooth D got in the rear of the van, then it departed. Down the road a short distance Smooth D jumped out and ran back to the truck holding the decoy van and the chump gangers after discovering there was some secondary transmitting equipment and a black box in the back of the van, which was dismissed as a tracking device placed by Evo to keep tabs.

CAD slumped straight away and hacked the pilotsoft, finding out the destination set for the Streetvan and passing it on to the other runners. He also discovered that there was no return route set, deducing that the return route would be passed on at the drop site. Chow and Uno were on overwatch, trying to track if there were any vehicle in pursuit, and Chow picked up that a small drone had been following the truck, well back and hard to spot but definately following the van. Smooth D managed to drive the truck like a master and managed to close the gap with the target Streetvan.

They arrived at the drop site, a Marina that looked like it catered to the private sector and not transport. Smooth D and the gangers held back a bit on the exit out of town to allow the drop to occur. The Streetvan crused down to the drop off point, about 100 meters away from a transport canal and 3 minutes ahead of time. CAD, Chow and Uno were looking around to see what is about when a large Troll, obviously armoured and carrying a heavy weapon as a personal arm. Uno sudenly starts going on about how there are snipers firing as Chow and CAD grab arms and hit the deck. The Troll walks over to the van and tells everyone to freeze. Chow starts asking questions of the Troll about the drop or the drone but gets no answers from the behemoth. An engine is plying its way up the canal, and a water vehicle appears in view. CAD recognises the vehicle as an assualt sub, a submarine that has limited landing capabily from hover propulsion. More heavily armoured fellows get out of the sub and they bring the goods across to the van. They load it into the Van without ever taking their eyes off the runners. The transporters activate the wedlock gear and hand over a chip with the return route details and then retreat back to the sub

The runners roll out of the compound and drive towards the delivery point and route which is broadcast by CAD. The group decides to send the decoy down the assigned route and put the target van up inside the truck and drive another route to the drop zone. CAD jumped in the back of the van to determine the function of the equipment so they could jam it when they loaded the van on the back of the truck. They get the truck away from the drop zone, send the decoy off and knight rider the van up into the truck. CAD does some snooping and realises there is two different devices in the back of the van, there is a wedlock device that was to track the goods, and if the corresponding RFID tags were moved too far away before the device was turned off then it would set a booby trap off in the cargo. The second device was unrelated to the black box, and it looks to be a transmitter firing off a high power signal. The direction of the signal does not seem to go in the direction of Evocorps holdings but towards Gatwick airport, where the lair of the Somali pirates is. CAD hacks the signal to see the information being passed and when he successfully does he finds out it is old school code transmitting positional data. A IC program slides down the signal to try and locate the outside interference with the signal but CAD doubles himself and spoofs the signal back to the pilot rig on the van. The IC follows the spoor and attacks the pilot rig sundering its circuits. CAD manages to jam the signal with a mighty effort, and succeeds so well he also stops the EMP from firing off and frying his gear. By this stage the van is spewing smoke and heating up in the interior. CAD tries to escape but cannot get out, so he broadcasts a SOS to the other lads to come and assist. They pull the truck over, allow Smooth D to get in back while Uno drives it. Smooth D takes a small time to smash the Streetvans door down and let CAD out, dispersing smoke through the trucks cargo area.

Soon after this Uno and Chow relay that a number of SUV's and heavy motorbikes are coming up on the horizon, looking like they are of African extraction. The runners agree that this is most likely the Somali pirates attempting to take possession of the cargo. Uno scrambles a message to Lone Star stating there is a truck being abused by road pirates, keeping out of the message that it was Evo gear. Smooth D and CAD crack the back of the trucks cargo door to get a look at the approach of the pirates, and sees they are well armed and moving up fast. The runners are told the response time for Lone Star is 4 minutes.

What happens next? Stay tuned for our next episode 'Mad Max versus the Knight Rider'
