Field Notes - Special Agent Frost Green - Monday 15th October 2008, 1300
Can't get this damn Stones song out of my head - ‘Time is on my side' - 1964 released on the No.2 Album. Don't remember even hearing it the first time but it's stuck there like those day old pieces of pecan pie in the canteen vending machine.
So I write this as we're waiting for Stephen Locke's plane to taxi in. Private plane I should add. I am now thinking I should have listened to my father and stayed at law school. Devereux has that lioness thing going on that she does so well - prowling on the tarmac. If this guy is wasting FBI time and resources, I wouldn't want to be him. Least she offered me a piece of gum en route - first gesture from her that made me feel wanted.
Anyway, I get the feeling from the team's progress this morning that we're not wasting our time. Agents Chance, Parisi and Sommers with NCIS Special Agent Martikian in tow have been doing some background on the missing kid, helped by yours truly of course.
So here's what we know, so far:
- Tabitha is 17 and kinda looks like a Winona Ryder clone circa the Beetlejuice movie and is way into some weird stuff - EMO, vampires, wicca, tarot and demonology. We found some rare and expensive texts in her bookcase - not exactly bedtime reading! She failed to make her first class flight 3 days ago to NYC and may have been missing since the previous Tuesday afternoon, if the mother's memory can be trusted.
- Her mother, Cassandra Devraux Locke is a lush with little control over her daughter - wasn't even aware that she hadn't made the flight. Chance believes she's drinking herself into an early grave and has more than a few issues, demonstrated in some nightmarish paintings found in the basement. They suggest a paranoid complex connected with being consumed or eaten alive.
- On a search of her room a message was found on her private answerphone from an anonymous female warning her to get out of New Orleans as ‘they' were on to her. The number traces back to a strip club in the French Quarter, a Farina business called Bo Jacksons.
- Also found hidden in her room was a ‘Book of Shadows' - a witches personal spellbook, diary etc and a map of the Lafitte Housing Projects in Mid City - a real Big Easy ghetto. The map was marked with red dots and had the number for NOPD Missing Persons on the top. According to friend/boyfriend (it's unclear his status, even to him) Brad Johnson, these represent a number of missing kids that Tabitha believed had been abducted. We're checking that out with NOPD but it seems Tabitha and Brad were given an official ticking off for stirring up the Project locals in early September. They had worked an outreach project there for their school in the early summer.
- Along with pictures of Tabitha and Brad, polaroids of Tabitha with an older gothic looking female were also discovered. Brad identified her as Lilith Carsonne, another wiccan and owner of a second hand bookstore located on Magazine and Jackson - another less than upscale part of town. Tabitha referred to Lilith as a ‘teacher' to the point that her mother mistakenly believed her to be a member of staff at her school. Looks like Lilith's teachings may have been strictly ex-curriculum.
That's where we are at lunchtime on Monday. I wonder if Kruger has calmed down yet - he was behaving really strange just before we left. Pierce and Deveraux drew cards to do the taxi duty and Pierce lost which means he's alone with the big guy - rather him than me. Winchester sure chose the right day to take off - the heat's intense in all meanings of the word...
