A recent history of House Kinnemeve | A Song of Ice and Fire

Lord Gostt went to fight in the Blackfyre rebellion on behalf of his old friend's son king Daeron II with Ser Robert and his personal guard. During the rebellion he took a nasty wound in the shoulder, one that never truly closed remaining inflamed and weeping blood and pus.

When Lord Gostt returned to Castle Lance, barely able to wield a sword and racked in pain, Lord Rocsly sensed weakness in the Kinnemeve household and began harassing smallfolk and merchants. To make matters worse their new Maester, Justin Langward seemed unable to treat Lord Gostt's injury. Lord Gostt struggled on for another eighteen months until the Lady Bethany announced she was pregnant. Lord Gostt rallied for a while at this point but then his health deteriorated until it was obvious that the only thing keeping him from death was the thought of his new child.

It was a difficult and painful birth but Lord Gostt was able to greet his daughter Jace before he died that same night. Lady Gostt however remained confined to her bed following the birth. Whilst a political marriage to try and bridge the gaps between Rocsly and Kinnemeve, Irris Rocsly had come to love Lord Gostt and his death, though expected, hit her hard in her weakened state. She lasted two weeks before dying herself passing control of the house to Ser Robert, with the guidance of the Kinnemeve Maester, to act until her son was old enough to rule. This was subject of course to the approval of Lord Martell and Lord Rocsly, their Liege Lords, which has not yet been given. In the meantime Lord Rocsly's harassment continued and even increased as he banned the Kinnemorne family from Kinnemeve lands as he know that is who Lady Irris and Ser Robert would have turned to for help and support.

Maester Justin Langward disappeared less than a week ago, leaving a rough note saying that he had let the house down badly and so was taking the black. There had been muttering before he fled of course, the wound had never healed well and the Lady Irris was seriously hurt during the birth of Stirling but still to lose both the Lord and the Lady within weeks caused many to wonder whether he was unlucky, incompetent or worse.... The following day the Rocsly troops appeared on the border.
